Fort Loudoun

Fort Loudoun State Historic Park is located near Vonore, Tennessee, along the shores of Tellico Lake. The site preserves and interprets a reconstructed 18th-century British fort that once stood in the Overhill Cherokee region during the French and Indian War. Originally built in 1756–1757, Fort Loudoun was intended to strengthen British alliances with the Cherokee and secure the western frontier.

The reconstructed fort, completed in the 20th century based on archaeological findings, features blockhouses, barracks, and a central courtyard that reflect its original design. Today, the park offers living history demonstrations, interpretive exhibits, and scenic views of the surrounding landscape, providing insight into colonial frontier life and the complex relationships between British forces and the Cherokee in early American history.
